3D CHARACTERS

This gallery contains some of my digital characters. You will find that there are both human, non-human and alien characters in here and there may be some cross over to my Creatures gallery.

My favorite workflow for this type of character is to model the subject from reference iilo. I tend to keep the model failry low poly and I use 100% quads on all jobs. That way I can be sure that the mesh is also 100% tris when needed.

I tend to use the box modeling method rather than putting a reference sketch into a viewport. I find box modeling to be more organic and lets me be more creative. I then UV map the model using HeadusUV or Silo.

I then create a basic texture map in ZBrush to help me position all the details then add the texture detail in Photoshop. I do all my high polygon sculpting in ZBrush and then export the model and it's normal or displacement map.

If I am short of time and I want to see a textured version of my character, I render a grey version in ZBrush. I then export the image and bring it into Photoshop. I add a fill layer and set it to multiply then add color over as needed.
