QUESTIONS FOR THE ZBRUSH by Glen Southern for Cris Palomio Well, hi everyone, my name is Cr ...Oh Poo!, you only wanted the questions didn't you. Ok here we go number one: - As more and more people are getting to grips with the modelling in Zbrush are you planning on providing customers with more ZTOOL`s (Models in Zbrush format) a CD of Extras, tools, materials, textures etc? OR will your Scripts do away with the need for this? - Who uses Zbrush? What market was it intended for when you first developed the program? - The latest version now includes ZScripts that enable users to `record` their actions into a text script and replay it at will. Was this a logical progression in the on-going creation of Zbrush or was it based on requests? Will the Zscript mean the end of the Zmovie or is that to remain? - What next in the Material panel? Do you believe that the default materials and their modifiers meet everybody's requirements? Similar to the deep texture editor in Bryce, users need to invest time in the material panel to get to the real power. Have you added new materials in Version 1.23? - A lot of people have been asking for a manual. The PDF manual at the Pixologic site is based on version 1.03? Is there a printed version on the way? Will the current one be updated? - Onto animation. As Zbrush is continually being developed, are you turning to animation? As an object (ZTOOL) is 'stamped' (SNAPSHOT) in the document and consequently no longer editable, how would you then animate? I suppose the ZScripts show us a possible way forward. - Perspective in Zbrush is handled differently from most other applications. You can deform a Ztool using the `PERSPECTIVE` deformation but this is a visual trick. Any plans to make the document window a true 3D environment? - What next for the Software? How do you plan to make Zbrush a must have tool in the digital artist toolbox? - Texturing and UV mapping next? If Zbrush is to integrate more with other apps (Poser, Bryce, 3DS etc) How will the texture mapping develop? If I import a poser model (OBJ) how can I use my existing Poser body textures? - The Zbrush modeller is a very powerful tool and is capable of deforming meshes with a very high number of polygons. The details you can achieve are amazing. Do you have any plans to allow other developers to use your technology? Or would you consider a spin off product specifically aimed at the modelling market? - Other applications use meta-balls or their own way of modelling and combining organic shapes. Can you add geometry to an existing mesh? If so how? - Are you happy with then interface? It has changed very little over the last few versions so I presume that you/customers are happy with it? Why did you opt for this type of interface rather than the more traditional Windows XX style/MAC OS? - Tell us more about the staff at Pixologic? How many of you are there? Who does what? Who buys lunch? - Where did the Pixol come from? As I understand it Pixol technology sees every pixel that you draw as a three dimensional image. Can you tell us how you developed the technology? - The fibre brush adds yet more to and already packed tool list. I understand that the best results are achieved using the `bake` button. What is this and what does it do to the document/image? - Recently Renderosity added a Zbrush gallery area and In-depth arts started their own Zbrush thread. You seem to have built a large community around the `Zbrush Central` forum and the members seems to be growing daily. Where do you see this going? - Will there be a Zbrush gallery held at the forum? Have any of the images posted at ZBCentral surprised you? I can think of a recent example of a Dutch masterpiece by Adman`. Do you encourage these artists in their endeavours? - You have
been posting as `Pixolator` for some time. When you were posting (anonymously
so to speak) what were your thoughts? Did you ever change the software
in response to anything you read? Were you every offended by any of
the comments? © Southetngfx 2001
